    Just because you don't need to charge _reliably_ at 48A/11kw every night doesn't mean that nobody does and its fine for Hyundai not to deliver on their promises. My spouse drives 90 miles daily for work. He works overnight, and we charge during off peak hours starting at 10pm when the electricity pricing drops substantially. He leaves for work around 1am, sometimes earlier. That means the car has about 3 hours to fully recharge. It needs to charge at full speed, or it won't get fully charged. Could we survive that? Sure, it would slowly drop over the course of the week (especially during winter) and fully charge on his day off, assuming we didn't need to use the car for any additional driving, but the fact that the car has a physical problem and Hyundai is choosing not to fix it is concerning. Reducing the charge current is not a fix, it's a work around. There is a substantial difference between those two things. The car is rated to charge at 11kw. Plain and simple. If it can't do that under reasonable circumstances, the car is broken. I could understand if it couldn't charge consistently at 11kw when the car was in 125F heat and direct sunlight, as that is an unreasonable condition. My car wouldn't charge at 11kw for more than about 10 minutes when it was sitting in my driveway at night with 50F temps. That's basically the equivalent of the car overheating and shutting down when trying to do a 0-60mph run in comfortable ambient temps. Does everyone need to do a full throttle 0-60mph run? No, but the car is rated and supposedly designed to be capable of doing it reliably during reasonable conditions. Would you forgive Hyundai if they reduced the power and acceleration of your car because it overheated after doing a short full throttle pull? Because that is essentially what you're doing by saying that reducing the charge current is a reasonable "fix" for the charge port overheating. Sorry for the rant, but if people would stop accepting mediocrity and non-fixes for hardware issues on modern cars, it would stop happening. These cars are extremely expensive, we should expect better.

      120-130, where from what I heard it consumes like 8-9liters, meaning the tank will be for like 500km? Plus 60 from the electric motors, but maybe its not calculated like that

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001 День назад

      The rated economy is 6.6l/100km when on gasoline. Which would work out to 636 km. Plus the 50km of EV range. So I guess technically it's 686km. But I've had several clients report that they're getting over 700 km total on road trips, so I assumed the ratings were conservative. I could be wrong 🤷

    How many batteries does the PHEV have? Is there a separate battery for the hybrid and another one for the Plug in? Where are they located? Is this the second generation that Hyundai bought from Toyota? Yes, I know there is one for the engine , etc. No one can tell me this, not even the dealers!

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001 7 дней назад

      The plug-in hybrid has a liquid cooled 360 volt 13.8 kilowatt hour battery that runs both the plug-in system and the hybrid system. It's 38.3 amp hours and consists of 96 individual lithium ion polymer packet cells. Hybrid system and plug-in hybrid system are designed in-house by Hyundai, definitely not purchased from Toyota. The pack is located in the center of the vehicle underneath the floor.

    • @williamastorino9551
      @williamastorino9551 7 дней назад

      @edsgarage001 Thank you for the info. So when I run my 30 miles on plug in EV MODE, then there is no electricity for the hybrid side unless some electric is generated by the vehicle? How long will it take to fill the battery with the wheel/ braking? Thank you .

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001 7 дней назад

      Actually a small portion of the battery. About 1 and 1/2 kilowatt hours, is used for the regular hybrid drive. So when you're in EV mode, it will use up only a section of the battery, maintaining the last bit for regular hybrid driving.

      @@edsgarage001 Only one more important question. Does this 2023 Sante Fe have 1 or 2 electric motors since it is AWD? I have seen videos that say it has 2 electric motors, and some say only 1 electric motor. Which is correct?

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001 7 дней назад

      Actually, there's like 12, maybe more lol... So, there's the main traction motor sandwiched between the engine and transmission.. which is the ONLY one that provides vehicle motion. Plus it also charges the battery during regenerative braking. The rear wheels are actually driven via a drive shaft... There's one mounted on the engine where the alternator would normally be which starts the engine during operation and charges the battery when the engine is running. There's one to run the AC pump There's two for the power lift gate There's several in each power seat There's one to move the HVAC blender door There's one that moves the throttle Etc etc...I can't even think of them all 😂😂

    They also have a 31 L drawer version which you can put in the trunk easily, and open it without needing to move it. That's the one we're probably going to get if we do (though we'd have to figure out getting it to Canada since that's not one of the models that they ship to us). Even the top opening 30 L one without wheels, which is shorter than yours at 16.2" needs to be moved deeper into the trunk to close the trunk, and closer to the opening to open the cooler. Of course, in the trunk you need to get power to it from somewhere, and the drawer version doesn't have a place to slot a battery into (though you can of course plug it into one). In early versions of the 2023 Ioniq 6 manual, it listed a 12V socket in the trunk (Were you early enough to get it included?), but other 2023 Ioniq 6 owners, and my mother with a 2024 Ioniq 6 Ultimate don't have one. So we either need to put a battery in the trunk or run a cable to it from one of the sockets inside the passenger compartment. I haven't checked how difficult that is. I know we could just slip one between the seats, but I worry about friction and vibration eventually rubbing a hole in the wire insulation.

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001 11 дней назад

      Thanks for the comment!. I actually already have a smaller one from a different brand, however it's not as nice as the Bodega one. Unfortunately my ioniq 6 does not have a 12 volt outlet in the trunk, at least not from factory lol. Make sure anyone you know who's interested in buying one of these uses Edsgarage for a discount code! 😁 Thank you for the comment!

    • @seabream
      @seabream 5 дней назад

      @@edsgarage001 Re: Discount code - will do. I hope you're enjoying the cooler. From what I've seen in your other videos I figured that you had the skills to add an outlet to your trunk if you wanted one. My mother did ask her dealership whether they could add one as a dealer installed option since the car appears to have been designed for it, and they have access to all of the factory parts used in, for example, the Ioniq 5, which while it has a 12V outlet in the trunk as standard in Canada, is available in other markets without it in some trims. She was told that while they could absolutely install one in an Ioniq 5 if someone came to them with one that didn't have it from the factory, they aren't allowed to install it for the Ioniq 6. But that of course, they can't stop us from doing it ourselves or having a third party installer doing it, and it won't void the warranty as long as it is done properly and isn't responsible for any issues. So they're understanding anyway, even if they can't help directly. Another Canadian Ioniq 6 owner on a forum said that in their car the mounting hole for the outlet in the trunk is moulded into the panel where it's shown in the manual, though it's covered with fabric, so maybe it can be done without too much trouble. Still might be easier to just go with a battery though. Thanks for the reply!

    Interesting test Ed. Harder to do maybe but try one on wear. We often hear from the EV haters that they go through tires 2-3 times faster than normal tires due to the battery wait. My wife has 22 Model 3 dual motor with the original tires and they have 36,000 K on them. I have a digital and manual tire gauge and are checking them regularly. The tire wear is completely normal.

    • @edsgarage001

      Yeah the consensus is that they wear about 25% faster. Though that's tough to test.... I'd need an equivalent model ice car on the same tires. And I'd need to watch the difference over tens of thousands of km. That's not a video I'm willing to try to make 😂

      My first EV BMW i3 changed the Bridgestones after circa 30k miles. My second EV VW ID3, had Bridgestone EV tyres too, changed on the rears after 9k miles. I really think it depends on the car and tyre combo. In my experience, EV tyres don’t make you go through tyres less often. And I wouldn’t consider 9k miles normal wear, quite aggressive. ID3 isn’t that much heavier than a 5 series BMW so I didn’t expect this level of wear. My 3rd EV comes with sporty Bridgestone non-ev tyres, I will see how much life I get from those. As you can see I’m an EV enthusiast, but I have experienced accelerated tyre wear on my EV.

    There's a class-action lawsuit against the 2016-2019 Chevy Volts, because of the unavailability of replacement parts for critical systems in the Volt. When GM stopped making the Volt, they also stopped making sufficient replacement parts for it. My daughter has a 2016 Volt that has been parked for over 6 months, waiting for a replacement control module that may never arrive. She had to go ahead and buy a different car. It's a shame that GM is abandoning their customers like that.

    Rather like cycling into a strong wind and then turning round and heading back, high winds are not a zero gain. To get the same result on a windy day means they are doing something. Perhaps experiment with teh locations too. Were they too close to the trailing edge, hence not allowing vortex to form, or is that the recommended location?

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001 16 дней назад

      According to the website that sells the same things, this was the recommended location. I did the test in both directions. I just don't think I was going fast enough to see a difference.

    I will take the one that comes with a spare tire, or has space for an after-market spare tire. I don't think either one has space for a spare tire.

    Own a 2022 Luxury hybrid tucson , 46k km till now. Piano black and touch buttons- Dirt is an annoying issue. Scratch- I used screen protectors for the entire touch controls and fly by wire buttons. On Ave 6.5l/100km during the summers and 7 to 8 l/100km bit of mixed highway and city driving. with Toronto GTA roads and highways , well the hybrid system is a blessing. Paddle shift never bothered to use them. Cruise control is great during long drives, forward collision warning. One issue i faced is during highway driving any object getting close to drivers side rear( only left side) automatically engages brakes and veers car away -annoying though.

    Ed great comparison. I test drove a New 2024 CR-V recently. It was a Sport Touring spec trim, non hybrid,So top-of-the line. Nice vehicle but NO PANORAMIC ROOF, NO HEAD-UP DISPLAY, & only a 9-inch color touch screen. So it’s missing some features that I would want, but I would wait for the 2025 Tucson over this 2024 model. But I like the Hyundai brand over Honda because it’s more reliable as you stated and THE QUALITY OF HYUNDAI VEHICLES is BETTER than Honda, Nissan, Subaru, and Mazda IMO! Great job Ed!😉🚙

  • @wahahah

    I would definitely wait for the 25 facelift for the Tucson. Not much change on the outside, but the inside has much better and practical cockpit. PHYSICAL BUTTONS! Instead of the atrocious piano black.

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001 17 дней назад

      Fair enough.. I agree, I prefer buttons and less piano black. But I'll say this for the Tucson's touch sensitive buttons, they actually work remarkably well.

    • @wahahah
      @wahahah 17 дней назад

      @@edsgarage001 Yeah, I actually watched a couple of your reviews on the Tucson. My family ended up getting one and it got so many features for the price, which was also the reason I looked over the piano black. They are so hard to clean and now it's all scratched up after like 6 months of owning it. Maybe there is a way to polish it later? And I hate the rims on the lower trims, but can't complain too much, right? xD My cousin has a BMW X3 and it didn't even have lane assist, warning or anything at a similar trim level. And it's really funny how different manufactures decide on what features they include on their trims. My Mazda has a Heads Up Display, but no auto headlights, I find that crazy haha.

    All the things I want to turn off lol. Wow, how I hate all the new technology. I really miss having a cd player! I was shocked the other day when I got in and started my 2023 Elantra and a notice onscreen alerted me to a low key fob battery. What? It's only a year and a half old. I've owned Hyundai's since 1995 and never heard of such a thing. I never even considered that...never even knew that even happens. I've put over 200,000 miles on most of my cars and never had any issues such as this. My spare Hyundai is a 2013...same fob same battery. Even my other 11 year old Hyundai (165,000 miles)...no problem. This is something I've never heard of before. Weird. I'm so old school...🤣 Automatic Breaking if you get too close? No way brother. Lane adjustments? Are you kidding? No car key? Push button start...hate that. After a year and a half I'm still not used to it and constantly leave the car running. Yea, yea, I know. I'm too old. But I miss the simpler times. These days making things simple makes them more difficult (and us lazy). Then again, I don't have a smartphone either. Ok...I'm done😆

      Thanks for the input! My Mom didn't want the autonomous braking on either, but I convinced her to leave it turned on. Well thankfully we did, because a few months after purchasing her vehicle she was looking in her side view mirror when somebody stepped out in front of her car, and the car slammed on the brakes and possibly saved that person's life. The autonomous emergency braking is something you'll never need until you do, and then you'll be thankful you had it.
